SHAW BROTHERS MOVIES TO BE RELEASED ON REGION 2 DVD

Postby SteelwireMantis » Mon Jan 24, 2005 10:34 am

The new UK film distributor Momentum Asia has bought the rights to sell the Shaw Brothers films in Europe on DVD. The first titles to be released are THE HEROIC ONES, HEROES TWO and THE SPIRITUAL BOXER (looking to be released on February 21, 05)

I have to wonder if they'll make much money on these releases, since places like CD-WOW UK have been offering the region 3 versions for a very reasonable price since day one (usually around $14 US). Anyone starting now will have a looooonnnngg road ahead of them collecting these things. Oh well, unlike American, at least the British are starting to release them at all!

Well i have been waiting for ages for someone to release the Shaw Brothers films on DVD. I guess QT using the Shawscope symbol at the start Kill Bill v1 did interest some buyers. I cannot wait for 36th Chamber of Shaolin to be released. I have a battered, dubbed, full-screen copy on VHS.

SteelwireMantis,

I'm assuming you're aware of this, but nearly 300 (possibly more) of the Shaw Brothers titles have already been released in beautiful editions in Hong Kong, fully restored, remastered, english subs, occasional extras, etc. I can't imagine you'll find a better price than you will getting these Region 3 versions. Despite the Region 3 labelling on the packages, I have several that are, in fact, all-region, but the best thing is to buy a region-free DVD player (available online prehacked or in stores, which you then find the hacks online at places like www.dvdhelp.com) and eliminate the need to restrict yourself to new Great Britain releases (and prices) for titles that have, in some cases, been available for years now, including 36TH CHAMBER OF SHAOLIN, which is already widely available, as are it's sequels.

CD-WOW, which I believe is a British company that ships out of Hong Kong, also offers many of the Shaw titles for a very reasonable price.
