Oh yeah. Bullet in the Head is incredible. I am lucky enough to have my version be the VCD so I still have Woo's original ending. It does suck though that the film has been cut up and is in so many different versions. The VCD often feels like there was a part cut or a scene ended abruptly. There are some subs gone as well at rather critial moments.

I am still shocked none of the Hollywood or Hong Kong big names/studios haven't properly restored and reissued the film in its complete and original form. I mean like you said, it is the quintessential work of one of the most influential action directors of all time!

Bullet in the head

I have an "international" print on VHS including the piss drinking scene. Is the original ending the one where (spoiler alert) Tony kills Waise Lee at the HK docks then screams? that's how this one ends. I got it from a guy selling HK movies by mail back in '98 I think.

bullet in the head ending

Postby cpardo » Thu Mar 10, 2005 3:03 am

yeah the one above mentioned is the one I have, with the cars at the docks, and Tony shooting Waise Lee in the head. Tony doesn't shoot himself though, just screams and that's it.

Haven't seen the ending in the boardroom....

I have the VCD so that is the only ending I have seen. It is pretty intense. The only problem is that it is missing some subs during a seemingly critical part of conversation. I was able to translate it with the help of my Chinese exchange student this past summer.

From what I have heard, the source materials simply aren't there. The 126 minute bootleg with the piss drinking was made off of a print that was sent to a few film festivals. Supposedly, even Woo himself doesn't have a copy of that version.

BTW, I have the boardroom ending here:

Yeah, that's the version I have--the "film festival" version. Strange, this movie has not yet been remastered. How long is the DVD that is available now?

Not sure offhand (I don't have it) -- you could probably check asiandvdguide.com.

There are just two endings as far as I know:

"boardroom" where Tony kills Waise Lee during the meeting

"car joust" where Tony and Waise fight in the parking garage and Tony kills Waise near the docks

BTW mrblue, I LOVE your website.
I have been using it for over a year now. Your 'hall of shame' is so funny. The line you had under 'To Be number One' had me laughing for days.
