Hong Kong movie room at Sakura Con in Seatac, WA

Postby cpardo » Sat Mar 05, 2005 7:45 am

Hi. If you happen to be in the Seatac Airport area on april 8-10, I will be co-hosting a Hong Kong movie 24-hr video room at Sakura Con, which is the yearly anime convention held there at Seatac Hilton (the video room is actually next door in the Marriot hotel). We'll show lots of different movies such as martial arts, modern action, plus comedy and drama too. In between we can either chat and/or show Cantonese/mandarin music videos of famous singers! This is a first time thing, but I think it will be fun. Stop by if you're there!

That sounds pretty sweet. I am not able to make it up to Sakuracon this year even though I have many friends who are going.

You know, we have an anime convention in Portland, Oregon during labor day weekend... Any chance you might be able to set up a similar viewing room? If you are curious, here is the con website:

I also have a little club here in Salem and we have been having monthly showings of anime and HK film at the local community college, and hopefully we will have a weekly gig going soon.

HK movie room

Postby cpardo » Tue Mar 08, 2005 1:25 am

I went to Kumori Con last year and had a blast. And yeah I would happy to have HK movie room there too. Just as long as I have time off to compete in the karaoke contest! I'm doing the room at SC with a friend. I dunno if she'd want to come to KC, so I may need help running the room there. Are you part of KC staff?

I am not on the staff, but if I lived in Portland I would definately be going to the planning meetings and getting way more involved, but I just don't have time for it. I am really active on their forums though and have in the past made some pleas for a live action room at the con.

also, even though I am not going to make it to SC, I was curious what your viewing schedule was going to be. Do you have it all planned out? I would like to see what you are showing...

HK vid room

Postby cpardo » Tue Mar 08, 2005 7:45 am

Ok. If you have any staff "connections" let me know. Or you could ask them if they're interested in having a room like that and have me come in and do it or be a part of it anyway. I dunno if I should ask directly yet since this was your idea. I like the idea and it could be cool to take my video room "on the road!"

We have a rough schedule so far. Hopefully by mid March it'll be finalized more or less, and will be posted up on the SC website. I can tell you it'll start early at 12AM Friday (technically the Thursday before the con officially starts) and closes at 3pm on Sunday. We have a good assortment of titles from martial arts, cops and triads, comedies, drama and a little Sci-fi too. so far I'm pleased with the schedule. I live near SC and it'd be a little hard to get to KC meetings--however I could attend a couple if I found rides.

Anyway keep me posted.

the HK video room at Sakura Con will now open at 8pm on Thursday (that's two more movies to add)! And it will be held in the Tacoma Room now at the Marriott Hotel--FYI!
