5 Venoms vs Wu Tang / Venom Warrior

Postby Emperor » Sun Jul 24, 2005 1:49 am

I'm looking for help naming the actual films behind the rather rickety facade some people seem to have erected to sell these films.

I got it from Amazon as part 12 of the Black Belt Theatr Series:

www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000 ... ntmagaz-21

but the names seem to be rather crudely tagged on - the second film doesn't seem to work in my player but the first has the "5 Venoms vs Wu Tang" part inserted crudely over the titles (equaly there is just a "The End" tagged on with no proper credits).

Details:

Title(s) AKA: Five Venoms vs. Wu Tang; 5 Venoms vs. The Ghosts; Five Venoms vs. The Ghosts; The Venoms vs. The Vampires
Film Director(s): Wang Chih Cheng (Cheung Chit)
Film Producer(s): Joseph Kuo
Released: [Taiwan]

Title(s) AKA: The Warrior; Dancing Warrior
Film Director(s): Chang Cheh
Film Producer(s): Chang Cheh
Released: 1985 [Hong Kong]

www.hkflix.com/xq/asp/filmID.2631/qx/details.htm

Producer: Joseph Kuo

But nothing at his IMDB entry that seems similar:
www.imdb.com/name/nm0403226/

and I can't seem to track the director down at all.

Basically it is like an earlier version of Shaolin vs Evil Dead (and a probable ripoff of Mr Vampire 2) with a good and bad sifu and assistant ("sifu"/Little Yuan and Maosan/Toothless respectively - the sifus are: good:Chiang Sheng and bad: Lu Feng hence teh Venoms tie in attempt) and a CVK thrown in (along with its mother and a CVK birth sequence) large numbers of hopping vampires and a super vampire. Lots of kids get involved ET-style to rescue the CVK and eventually end up dressing as them and then collecting the animals urine and excrement. Its starts off with a series of fights involving various Taoists (and including a version of Dayo (the Banana Boat Song) - also seen to good effect in Beetlejuice) before flagging badly in the middle with lots of running about and then building up to a big showdown which results in both sifus dead, all but one assistant gone, and the two main kids suffering from serious internal injuries and a missing leg before the CVK and mother hop off into the dry ice.

Anyone got any ideas?

There are clearly other releases under this title:

www.rottentomatoes.com/m/5_venoms_vs_wu_tang/

as well as featuring the original:

www.rottentomatoes.com/m/black_belt_the ... m_warrior/

Even Kung Fu Cinema can't idnetify it in their review:

www.kungfucinema.com/reviews/fivevenomsvswutang.htm

The best they manage is:

Note: 5 Venoms vs. Wu Tang is not the film's original English title and no date of release is available. But based on Lu Feng's apparent age, the look of the film and the plot's resemblance to Mr. Vampire II, my guess is that it was made in 1986 or '87, and probably in Taiwan where old school film production lingered for several years after Hong Kong virtually abandoned the genre in the mid-'80s.]

Reviews at Amazon.com:

www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000069 ... enantmc-20

suggest it is either: Kung Fu Vampire Buster or Magic Story/Young Master Vampire.

It certainly isn't the former as that is New Mr Vampire:
www.imdb.com/title/tt0093308/

and Young Master Vampire is directed by Ricky Lau:
www.imdb.com/title/tt0091292/

Magic Story is an option as the title in Chinese certianly starts Jiang Shi (but there are no more details in the DB):

So anyone got any ideas on identification?

Thanks in advance.
