Chow Yun Fat and Yu On On

Back in the early 80's, Chow Yun Fat married Yu On On, 2 stars from 2 rival tv stations... The marriage lasted about a year. I was too young to realize what was happening.

I am curious if anyone knows the true story there. What happened and what caused the divorce?

I've long wondered about this myself.
According to a couple bios (mainly simonyam.com) Chow recently broke up with Idy Chan after a five year relationship. Distraught, he attempted suicide by drinking household cleansers and was hospitalized. Shortly later he married Candice Yu On-On, and divorced after six months, then met Jasmine Tan and married her soon after. So, it sounds like, perhaps it was some sort of rebound effect after Idy Chan. Both Jasmine and Idy’s name in Chinese is identical except for the middle character. Jasmine's name is Chan Wei Lin. Idy's is Chan Yuk Lin.)

The 3 ex-girlfriends of Fat Chai were interviewed in HK about their feelings of his wedding. Candice Yu said, "No special feeling. It is just another person’s wedding." Cora Miao smiled and mentioned that she herself also got married and she doesn't care about other people's things. Idy Chan was also married at that time. She just laughed, "Should I congratulate him? He didn’t invite me to his wedding. Ha! Ha! Ha!"
