I saw the film in the cinema in '93 -- and that was the first and last time I saw it until Mei Ah put the film out on DVD in '02.
The theatrical cut ran 98m, and Mei Ah's disc runs 85m (which is actually 13m shorter, but still a fair whack cut out of the film). Not only is the bowling alley musical scene missing, but the triad olympics has also been reduced down to virtually one event, which makes it a one joke scene.
I consulted Mei Ah about this and they advised that the version released was the only print made available to them by the film's current licensor (though he produced it, Wong Jing apparently doesn't hold the rights to the film anymore). I was just hoping that the Tai Seng disc was the full 98m version, that's all -- I have seen the film before and was simply seeking a full length edition of it, as the HK disc was a waste of money and shelf space for me...
