Weinstein Company picks up Dragon Tiger Gate

Jeremy Kay in Los Angeles 11 April 2006

The Weinstein Company (TWC) has picked up all English-speaking territories to Wilson Yip's martial arts action thriller Dragon Tiger Gate.

Based on a well known Hong Kong comic book The Gate Of Dragon And Tiger, the picture follows three young martial arts masters from the back streets of Hong Kong who team up to fight injustice.

Donnie Yen choreographed the fight sequences and stars alongside Nicholas Tse, Shawn Yue, Dong Jie and Li Xiao-ran. Raymond Wong and Nansun Shi produced.

The picture was shot in Hengdian, China, and will be released in Hong Kong on Jul 28.

Bey Logan, vice president of Asian acquisitions and co-productions for The Weinstein Company, brought the title to the company.

TWC executive vice president of business and legal affairs Barry Littman negotiated the deal with Nansun Shi and Virginia Leung of Mandarin Films Distribution and Howard Frumes of Alexander, Nau, Lawrence, Frumes & Labowitz on behalf of Mandarin Films Distribution.
