Reminds me of Clifton Ko's occasional obsession with Benny Hill. Haven't seen PERFECT COUPLES, but I suspect Ko and his directors had a bit more luck restaging Hill's gags than Raymond Wong and company, though that probably would've been much easier than trying to replicate a creation as unique as Mr. Bean. I know I shouldn't be surprised when I see homages like this to shows I cherish -- especially considering Hong Kong's colonial status -- but I still raise an eyebrow at it sometimes, especially when gags that should have been easy to duplicate fall flat. Makes you wonder if they really "got" what made the originals work so well, or were just lazily tossing half-remembered gags into the standard Hong Kong comedy blender.
