Biography
 
  Kwan Tak Hing was known as Sun Liang Chow in the Cantonese Opera world in the twenties and thirties of the last century. He appeared in the first Cantonese talkie - "Romance of the Songsters" - in 1933. In the film :The Knight of the Whip", Kwan stunned the audience with his whipping skills. During the Sino-Japanese war, he was often involved in morale boosting trips to the barracks and also publicity for the armed resistance against the Japanese invaders, which earned him the title "The Patriot Artist". In 1949, he took the title role in "The Story of Wong Fei Hung", which was the beginning of a series of over 80 films. Kwan was active in charitable works and also a keen exponent of Confucian teachings. In 1952, he opened a Chinese Herbal Shop to help relieve people of their ailments. Kwan was also elected to be the Chairman of The Chinese Artists Association of Hong Kong and made important contributions to the Cantonese Operatic art. In 1982, he was made an MBE.
