Biography
 
  Long time associate/lover of Gong Li. Recently taken up with a new protege who looks a lot like Gong.......

Born in West Shaanxi, after his graduation in 1968 he works in several factories until he his admitted in 1978 in the Department of Photography of the Beijing Film Institute. After his graduation in 1982 he begins to work for Guangxi Motion Picture Studios and begins to be known thanks to the movie "One and Eight" in 1984. At the same time he begins to appear as an actor in these movies. After his awarded cinematographer tasks for reputed director Chen Kaige he himself debuts as a director in 1988 with "Red Sorghum", which won the Golden Bear in the Berlin Film Festival and was the beginning of his awarded directing career. Yimou directed the spectacular opening and closing ceremonies for the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing, China.
