After her graduation from secondary school at the age of 16, she went to live with her relatives in Switzerland working as a waitress for 4 years. In 1990 she returned to Hong Kong to participate in the Miss Asia Pageant contest, but lost in the semi-finals. After several jobs as a waitress, karaoke actress, and model, she debuted as and actress for the D & B film company, which needed a new face for their movie "Black Cat" (1991). Her performance was awarded with the Best New Performer prize at the 11th Hong Kong Film Awards.
