Biography

Born in Tianjin in 1922, in the 50s he moved to Hong Kong after studying Western Art in a Beijing Catholic University. Firstly he began to work doing illustrations in Bibles and in a catholic magazine, but in 1964 he created "Old Master Q", the longest and most popular man-hwa character of Hong Kong comics, which very soon was converted in animation and live-action shorts and full-length movies and TV shows. With his elder son Joseph Wong (Wang Ze), Alfonso established "WangZ Comic Studio" in 1995.
Note: Alphonso Wong Kar-Hei (the creator) is father's name, Joseph Wong Chak is the son's name. He used his son's name as a pseudonym.

Alfonso Wong's pen name Wong Ze is actually the real name of his eldest son. Trained as an architect, Joseph Wong Ze started to take over his father's work in 1995. The two denied allegations that Wong plagiarised the character of Master Q from another Tianjin artist, Feng Pengdi. (BBC)
