Summary
Ting-chun, the eldest son of the Yiu family, and his wife, Madam Tin, scheme to inherit the family fortune. Ting-chun kills his own brother, framing the murder on his sister-in-law, Yeung Sau-zhen. Sau-zhen escapes on being informed by her servant, seeking help from her brother, Yeung Min. Yeung Min is an inverterate gambler who, after losing heavily in a game, sells his own sister to a man named Yeung Chun. Yeung Chun is sympathetic to Sau-zhen and agrees to bring her case to court. However, Sau-zhen and Yeung Chun are separated due to an accident. The pregnant Sau-zhen is about to give birth. At this point, Madam Tong, wife of the famous lawyer Sung Sai-kit passes through the road and brings Sau-zhen home. Sai-kit decides to help Sau-zhen bring her case to court. Madam Tin's brother is the State Secretary Tin Nang, who bribes the Ji'nan magistrate, Koo Duk, to charge Sau-zhen with murder. Tin Nang dispatches two of his underlings to Koo Duk with the documents. The underlings pass through an inn run by Sai-kit. There, Sai-kit springs a trap on the underlings, making them drunk and stealing their documents. With the documents, Sai-kit makes a counter accusation against Tin Nang and Koo Duk, and succeeds in clearing the name of Sau-zhen. - HKFA Summary
