After graduating in an artist training course of TVB, he starred in TV series such as "The Justice of Life", and "The Final Combat". In 1988, his performance in "Final Justice" has gained him the award of Best Supporting Actor of the 25th Golden Horse Awards. His hilarious way of acting has created a unique type of "non-sensible humor" which has developed a local culture as well. Those blockbusters such as "All for the Winner" and "Fight Back to School" which he starred are all box office record breakers, making local comedies the biggest hits. In 1995, with "A Chinese Odyssey Part Two: Cinderella", he was awarded as the best actor for the year by the Hong Kong Critics' Society. In 2002, with "Shaolin Soccer", he was awarded as the best director and the best actor for the year by the Hong Kong Film Award.
