Biography

	Andrew Lau Wai-Keung was born in Hong Kong in 1960. He has been fond of photography since he was a child. He joined Shaw Brothers (HK) Ltd. after secondary school graduation. The first film he participated in as a semi-skilled worker in cinematography was "Legendary Weapons of China" directed by Liu Jia-liang. He was eventually promoted to cinematographer in 1985. He had participated in the cinematography for the following films: "Where's Officer Tuba," "As Tears Go By," "Curry and Pepper," two films of "Lee Rock" etc and his works were nominated for the Best Cinematography Award of the Hong Kong Film Awards several times. Christopher Doyle was nominated for the Best Cinematography Award of the Hong Kong Film Awards for "Chung King Express" while Lau Wai Keung was also one the cinematographers on the film. He has been known for his loose style in cinema photography capturing natural light and dynamic camera movements. He directed his first film "Against All" in 1990, but he didn't give up his career as a cinematographer. He was the director as well as cinematographer of his thirty films except "Rhythm of Destiny," "Raped by an Angel" and "Human Lanterns." He also co-directed with Wong Jing "To Live and Die in Tsimshatsui" and "Modern Romance." In 1995, he took up the position of Director and Cinematographer in "Love of the Last Emperor" and "The Mean Street Story." He founded Bob and Partners Co. Ltd. jointly with Manfred Wong and Wong Jing. The first film of this company was "Young and Dangerous" which was released in 1996 and made a hit. In the same year, they produced the 2nd and 3rd parts of the film as well as "Best of the Best." From 1997 to 1998, he continued to direct films including "Young and Dangerous IV" for which Anthony Wong was nominated for the Best Actor Award of the Hong Kong Film Awards, "Young and Dangerous V," "Young and Dangerous: The Prequel" and "The Storm Riders." - Biography from Storm Riders DVD
